20 Things That Only The Most Devoted Three Wheeled Buggies Fans Are Aware Of

Three Wheeled Buggies

Whether you're looking for a buggy to run around in or a stroller that can be used for neighbourhood walks, three wheeled buggies are great for mobility. Their compact design makes them easy to manoeuvre even in tight spaces.

For an easy ride, opt for a pram fitted with air-filled tyres and look for models with 360deg front swivel wheels. However, they are susceptible to punctures so be prepared with an repair kit.

Frame made of sturdy material

New data show that three-wheeled buggies, the symbol of the decade that had more money than common sense, are in a steep decline. They are being replaced by four-wheelers that are able to handle a wider variety of terrain, yet still look swanky and being easy to push.

The general rule is that the bigger the wheels are, the easier it will be for your buggy to cope with rough ground and bumpy pavements. The larger wheels on both the front and back makes it easier to maneuver and more stable when walking downhill or over difficult terrain.

MFM reviewer Kath tested this buggy with the newborn baby and a toddler and found it to be very sturdy. It was able to withstand cobbles, grass, and rough pavements, as well as dirt tracks and kerbs. She noted that it was solid to push, and very solid on difficult terrain. Its tyres (which are inflatable, so require occasional pumping) offer built-in suspension, which was very comfortable for my kids.

Another thing to consider is the size and shape. It should be big enough for your child's comfort. You will also want it to be able to recline for them to lie flat. Some three-wheel buggies offer the option of reclining completely, while others only allow for an adult facing one.

A great option for those who want to tackle off-road or muddy walks is the Roma Atlas. This buggy is ideal for a single child from birth and can be adjusted to accommodate two children as your family expands. It is suitable for toddlers and infants from birth until age 4. It comes with a bumper with a rain cover, an upgraded 5-point harness, and a big padded seat. Storage options are also good, with a large basket with zip pockets on the hood, and an extra pouch on the rear of the seat unit.

Larger wheels

Larger wheels mean your buggy will be more stable on rough terrain - ideal for buggies that are off-road. They also make it easier to maneuver the pushchair in tight spaces. Some three-wheeled buggies feature swivel wheels on the front, which aid in maneuvering around tight corners. Others are designed to run and have fixed wheels that lock to provide increased speed and stability. This can also help if you bump into the roots of a tree or stray road, as the front wheel will rise up a bit to prevent you from hitting it.

A lot of 3 wheeled pushchairs come with air-filled tyres that allow them to tackle a broad range of terrains. They are also more flexible than 4 wheelers. They also tend to be lighter. They are more prone to punctures, and you'll need to have an repair kit and spare inner tubes on hand.

Mountain Buggy Core, Venicci Carbo and Venicci Carbo Lux are some of our favourite 3-wheelers. These buggies, as per MFM's Kath, have larger wheels which according to her "perform well on grass, gravel roads and market town cobbles", and can easily climb or descend kerbs. They also come with a suspension system that according to her "smoothes out bumps very effectively".

Buggies with larger wheels can be quite wide, and they may be a challenge to fit into narrow spaces. This is an issue when you're using it for a jogger or to be able to get through doorways that are narrow when you're out and about. Luckily, most models have small folding options that allow you to remove the front wheels for more compact storage.

Easy to Manoeuvre

One of the major advantages to a three wheel buggy is that it is much easier to maneuver, especially with a child in the back. They are designed so that the front wheels can rotate at a moment's notice, and are easy to maneuver, making them perfect for terrains that are difficult, such as cobblestones, parks, bumpy roads, and dirt tracks.

MFM reviewer Kath tested a 3 wheeler with her newborn and toddler and stated: "The Terrain was a pleasure to navigate over the rough ground with the swivel rear wheel being particularly helpful. I was also impressed with how well it coped with kerbs, especially when using the brake operated by hand.  three wheel pushchair  was extremely stable when for descending or on uneven terrain."

The only drawback of this amazing maneuverability is that the 3 wheel buggy's bigger wheels sometimes mean that it will be difficult to maneuver in tight spaces - something to consider especially if you live in a metropolitan region. If this is a problem then a 4-wheeler might be better for you.

Bumper bar

Bumper bars protect your child from bumps and scrapes when they are out and about. These bumper bars are simple to install, and will help your child feel safe and secure out and about.

Designed to complement the sleek lines of your Slim Twin stroller, this bumper bar is an upholstered and soft surface that offers a comfortable place for your child to hang to when walking. The robust construction and durable design will ensure that your child will be comfortable strolling around town without fear of falling or leaning towards the side.

The fabric sling seat sits comfortably inside the frame instead of sitting on top like modular seats. It provides the lowest centre of gravity at the ideal height for your newborn and also providing an excellent weight distribution to facilitate kerb pop (it takes less effort to push the buggy up and over a curb than you think). MFM reviewer Kath said it's great on grass and cobbles. It's also a great alternative for running, thanks to its air-filled tyres as well as a locking swivel wheels.

The bumper bar can be easily removed and installed with a quick-release mechanism. Moreover, the bumper bar is easy to clean, and is made from durable materials that are simple to wipe down. Kath the MFM reviewer, also appreciated the space of the buggy. There's an easily accessible large, spacious basket that's surprisingly spacious for a buggy that's this big. Additionally, there's a handy pouch on the back of the unit, and two smaller mesh pockets underneath the hood, where you can keep your phone and keys.
